This piece was inspired out of frustration. A large open pit mine is being proposed near my property. This mine because of its location could permanently change the water table of the surrounding wetlands and farm lands, not to mention contaminate the surrounding river systems.
This piece called CONSUMPTION! is 1' by 8' I will try to show you some pics that
represent the piece, however because of the size i did find it hard to photograph.
hopefully in the future i can show you a clearer pic.
This piece is currently for sale at St Germain gallery in Toronto.

I just came back from the UK.

I just came back from the UK and had a great time.
Currently I'm working on a new piece.
It's made of 4 wood panels 1' by 2' making the entire piece 1' by 8'
It is a large landscape piece that includes 3 farms and a large open pit mine and plenty of wind turbines.
So far the piece is just roughed out and I'm now working on the trees :)
I will keep you posted. I have Art show at the Victory cafe DEC 1st
I am hoping to have this piece completed for this show :)

Today I am dropping off my art for the square foot art show.
I am submitting 3 pieces. They are inspired by some of my newer work, but in square foot size.
I will post the pics and names of the pieces soon.
Yesterday I completed a table/ art piece as well. I started it a year or so ago and took and break from finishing it.
Thankfully i finaly got around to completing it. I will be sure to post a picture of that piece soon as well.

Industry and the last stand! This piece is inspired by my motorbike rides through our Ontario countryside. I am always surprised to see a lack of connected forest, and a lack of old growth forests. Our forests are divided by roads,factories and housing complexes and farmland. This makes it hard for endangered wildlife of all kinds to migrate. Roads and industry are needed, but i would like to think we can save the forests (and wet lands)we have left for the wild life and future Eco tourism.

Farmers under pressure! food VS. development is 12' by 24"
This piece reflects the large amount of development in our most productive farm lands.
It is important that we take care to preserve our food lands and green spaces.
I have seen so many great wetlands and spaces disappear in the last 20 years.
Myself i would love to see more Eco friendly skyscrapers and condos and less sprawling suburbs. This can leave more room for parks, greenbelts and farms!

When i was a kid in grade 3 my school went to a conservation center. I remember an old pioneer home where the old Dr once lived. It was a small home with lots of open fields. I have allot of great memories of conservation centers! This piece reflects my early memory of that place.

I have been missing summer for a few months now. All last summer i rode my motor bike in the countryside looking at amazing farms and pastures. I have been dreaming of this for weeks now! This piece is 12" by 24" if i had a larger wood panel at the time i would have made it much much larger.

This cute home on stilts has a wonderful garden with falling fruit. The home is small and tidy. The small piece of art on the lower right hand corner is called
THE FAMILY. This small piece is 30mm by 30mm. I often do have names for some of the small art works in my art, but i only name them if it just comes to me.

The future of city living! is 3' by 4' This is a nice size piece and features 3 small micro houses. The center micro house is a bit larger and includes a small reading room for the professional. All the homes have a small garden area on the roof and the homes are located near or next to a public park. Take a closer look at the rooms and art. As for all my work, this piece is for sale. Antique market

Today I am going to take a day off and go to the antique market across from St Laurence market.
I love this place. I love looking at all the random cool old stuff, it's also a great place for an artist to get ideas. This is were I find cool tools for my art, not to mention the 1930s machine age and art deco lamps I seem to collect. If you get a chance I recommend checking it out!
The antique market is open every Sunday 5am to 5pm. I have to wounder, who is at the market at 5am?

OK so i went to the market and found all this. A 1930s toaster a few spatulas a key and some forks. Once i modify them i will use them for my pyrography. Every time i find more tools it increases the vocabulary of my work. sometimes i cut my own tools, but i love it when i find cool shapes and patterns from other time periods. Now I'm going to work on the 3' by 4 foot piece you see below. Have a good week :)

So after my last post i decided to rough out one of my 3' by 4' wood panels. I love what I'm coming up with so far. I still have to add the rooms,art and furniture of the 3 micro houses.
See if you can guess where the 3 homes will be?
So far i have put about 14 hours into this piece. The next stage will take allot longer, not to mention the 5 or 6 clear coats. we will see how it turns out next week.

This wonderful micro house has a nice garden and is also self sufficient with the small wind turbine. This space has small bedroom, kitchen and living space. Recycle your junk! you wont be needing it in this micro home. Some art and friends, what more do you need!

This abstract piece was a concept i thought of on new years eve 2010, as i was reflecting on my year.
I am working on another micro house piece at this time. I just wanted to get this abstract piece out first. This piece is filled with a few of my favorite things. Art, lamps, furniture, etc. This piece also reflects the fact that I worked on allot of art this year!

The Japanese micro house!
This piece was inspired by my interpretation of arts and crafts stained glass and some of the new micro houses coming out of japan. The micro houses take up the size of a car parking spot. This home includes a bedroom, a living space and a small patio. I have always been obsessed with straight lines in my work. you can see this in most of my work from the clouds and pollution in my factory life series,to the abstract art in my paintings and wood burnings.I also love living in small spaces. The idea the every spot has a reason and a place. Well designed spaces that don't leave room for clutter. You will see a few more pieces relating to this theme in the next few weeks or months.

A friend gave me this arts and craft style coat hook and i decided to make a hat rack out of it. Because i love arts and crafts stained glass i decided to go a little crazy on this piece of found wood. This is my interpretation of stained glass on wood. Although i don't always put all of my art on this blog i am putting this piece up because it inspired my next piece of art you will see in the next post.(The japanese micro house!)

Well it took a wile but this piece is finally finished.
This piece was inspired by my green roof condo series and my wind turbine series.
This is the largest wood burning of mine to date. I am hoping to work on larger pieces like this in the future. I considered making this piece double this size with a larger park, but i decided to stick with a piece of wood that i could Cary home. maybe i will be commissioned to make that larger piece one day? lets hope so :)
As allot of you know i love design and architecture. The rooms if you look close have various people stiles in mind. Example the guy that likes 60s design. The person who likes machine age lamps and minimal furniture, the art deco lover and even the arts and crafts geek. Oh and don't forget the cluttered guys house. Really this is all parts of what i love in design and peoples character.
I also love the buildings, the wind turbines with the viewing station. This is a concept piece. maybe one day cities will place a little much more emphasis on making parks on top of all our new buildings. This could help to double the amount of public spaces we have in out cities. At the very least we can dream of such a concept!

Construction zone nearing completion! Well i am 3/4 finished this piece. This is what i have so far. i still have to put 20 pieces of art in the condos, decorate the restaurant in the top floor of the tall condo and double check the piece and clear coat the piece 5 or 6 times.It may take a few weeks or more?
Wile bike riding to my friends art show my peddle bike broke in half at one of the welds and i managed to crash and brake my wrist. now i have a splint on my wrist. It sucks but I'm determined to finish this piece because I'm in love with it.
I'm going to try to work on it tomorrow and see how it goes?

Tobermory is a piece i made soon after a motorbike trip to Tobermory.
What a great trip and i hope to make it again. The furniture in this piece was inspired buy a shop that was near my studio called TWICE FOUND. Twice found was a antique shop that sold fine Tique furniture and hand crafted vases,collectibles like Blue mountain pottery and vintage jewelry.

The vase collectors house was a piece i made about a month ago. After going to a few antique markets i realize i love those geeks who collect all sorts of old things.

hi everyone! I have been busy with weddings and camping trips and working my land in grey county. I am hoping to make a bird sanctuary on my property. All summer i camped on my land and started making a few structureless trails and dug a small pond by hand. The next day after starting the pond a great blue heron showed up, that was gratifying. I am also hoping to farm high bush cranberry's some time in the future. This is a plant i love and more importantly it makes great jelly's. I will be farming this bush organically and in a way that will not impact the land or the wildlife. I don't expect to make allot of money but i will make great jam! Other than that i managed to make 2 pieces of art.

The Fergus art show went well. I sold a nice piece. This is 3 pics of my art in the space and the front window, and a pic of the sculpture gallery in the next room. I would love to have the opportunity to show my art in Fergus again.

Parks canada series

The following 12 pieces are part of the PARKS CANADA series.
This series was inspired by all the road side PICNIC areas at the side of our Canadian highways and roadsides. I was lucky that when a was a kid my family took us camping a few times every year. Sometimes on our way we would stop off at one of the many roadside picnic areas. I mostly remember cool barbecues and picnic tables and 1950s designed restrooms. I think we drove by them more than we used them at the time. I feel its a great economical idea compared to the new Tim Horton's
MC Donald's super gas station stops that people often stop at today. I hope they don't go away and i hope people continue to use and enjoy them. I designed these pieces to be simple and inexpencive. Buildings and furniture take me much longer to make.These are simple and cute!

Often i like to revisit older series. Cottage life upside down trees was a turning point in my art work for me. I found my self wanting to put more detail in my art but i was running out of room. so i placed the trees upside down to make more room for fire pits and picnic tables. plus if you have ever did a head stand by the edge of a forest it looks amazing. like a kaleidoscope. try it!

The PICNIC was the piece that started me thinking about starting the PARKS CANADA series. mostly because i was so exhausted from designing furniture and buildings from the wind turbine and green roof condo series, i needed to make a series that was a bit easier on my brain and a bit more relaxing to make.
People often think art should be happy and fun to make like its a easy job. but for me if i work hard on a few pieces I'm often burnt out for a few months afterwords.

It has been a busy month after the Toronto outdoor art exhibition. I have 2 shows to mention. Both are exciting!
I am apart of a group show called A is for ART in a historic town called Fergus Ontario.Our art will be displayed in a large 120 year old building near the center of town. I have over 8 large works displayed. Most pieces are from 2009,2010.
This week in Fergus is the 65 annual highland games, so its a great time to head down and see the town the people and our ART.
This show will be up AUG 9 to Aug 15 2010,The flyer is attached to this post.

The Park Plaza.

The Park Plaza is 24" x 48". This piece took about a week to make. I love all the furniture and art in the rooms. I would love to live here!
After making piece a few weeks ago i have taken a bit of a break form my art.

Yes this piece has a long name but it tells the story i want to project.
For years i dreamed of condos like this. fields of green pastures and people living in there cute homes with great views. The nice hum of the
wind turbine. Sure there is some bugs to work out with this project but would it not be cool! crazier ideas have been made! Think of Frank Lloyd Wrights Falling water. AMAZING!

Modern country living is the second of the wind turbine series. I'm not sure how the photo looks to you, but the hill looks amazing when you see this piece in real life. It can kinda make you dizzy. I also love the big black pines in the right corner. This seems to stabilise the piece. I hope you like it.

This piece is wonderful to me because it was inspired by all the wind turbines around my brothers farm. I have been thinking of this series for over a year, and because of the show I'm having at LIVE i was inspired to star it. I esp love the condo with elevator. I would surely love to live here! Not to mention the view!

The Green Roof Community!

This piece is part of my green roof series. Because of the detail in the apartments it took a long time to make. I worked on it for about a week and now i will give it 4 clear coats before it is done. I will be having a show at LIVE (a organic food bar)for the month of march. Because of this I'm working hard to get a few more green roof pieces together. I think the green roof series will go great at LIVE. Most of the green roof pieces you have seen in the past are sold or at other venues at this time, so i got a bit of work ahead of me. This piece was made at the beginning of the month. I has lots of great art and a nice view and seating area by the fireplace and by the picnic table to your left. When i make my art i always try to make places that i would like to visit. I always think of the people that live in the house and what kind of things they like. dark furniture, round furniture. minimal clean house or cluttered house. This guy seems to love collecting art, and has it every were. Much like my house and studio.

I love this one. It is 24"by48". This piece was inspired by allot of the smaller pictures or windows in my earlier works. In this work the rolling hills and farmers fields seem to be the main focus to me. however i like the fireplace and wood boxes and pictures in the farmers house. Open the pic and take a closer look at the detail.

This piece is about public spaces. Libraries, pools, parks and public space in general. When i was a kid i would always go swimming or go to the library. I was always amazed that this was "our space" with all the nice art and plants. I am glad i was open enough to find these spaces inspiring! Thankfully some of the best art you will see is in our public spaces.
This piece is 18" by 48" Because I ran out of wood panels its made with 2 panels and is connected together. I think it gives this piece a great look.

The murder in the forest!

As a kid in grade 2 we went camping in a trailer much like this one.
After a day of adventure we came back to our camp ground to find out that our neighbours trailer had been stolen! As a kid this freaked me right out! I thought maybe we could have OUR trailer stolen when we were sleeping in it at night.
I spent the night terrified! Along with all the alfred hitchcock movies i have been watching this week i feel the name is fitting.
As you can see the trees are extra spikey.

This piece it 30 by 60" So its nice and big. Its called THE HOUSE PARTY!

Although there is no people to make a mess at this house party, i Find it a delight to look at all the rooms and think were would i like to sit with my friends.

I also love the abstract painting in the bedroom.

I'm clear coating the Coal Miners Sign. I have been working on it for days now.
Thankfully my partner and i got away for a few days in the country. We rode our bikes up and down the country roads. It was inspiring being around all the farmland and trees!
I have a few ideas for some art i would like to work on some time in the near future.

This table is called: The tree and the Spike! It is about 11" tall and is a great table for people who like sitting around low tables with pillows. This table feels powerful because of the train rail spike that is slammed into it. The crack in the wood looks equally dynamic. One last table much like this will be made however it will be about 20" tall.

busy week.

This week was a busy week. I made 2 new art pieces, one of them you can see below. I am also making 2 cool table sculptures from an old tree that had to be taken down in my back yard. I will post them for you to see some time soon. some how in my busy week i managed to stain one of my co workers skateboards.
Tomorrow i will start to clear coat the last of the wood burnings then i will post it for you all to see. I think you will like it!

This wood burning was super fun one for me to do. Its a dream house with a artist studio in the back. I love the design of this place because it has plenty of trees and a large solar paneled roof to soak up the scorching sun. I also like the way the roof connects the studio to the house. I guess you can tell by now i love architecture!

This series was started in early 2009. It was inspired in a fit of rage when i was burnt out from doing so many cottage life series. I just had to trash a few cottages just for the fun of it! I have been told this is some of my best work. I'm not sure that's up to you to say, i tend to love all of my stuff.
